To help you choose the right BMX bike frame for your bike, you need to ask yourself a couple of questions. Some people skip this step and immediately purchase their BMX frames without any consideration. More often than not, these people end up purchasing the wrong BMX frame for their bike thereby, disappointing themselves on their first purchase. Of course, you do not want these things to happen to you.
1. You need to first determine which style of BMX bicycle is best for you. BMX are available in three styles: classic BMX, freestyle BMX and jump BMX. If you plan to do a lot of ramping with your bike, choose a jump bmx bike frame and a freestyle frame if you want to learn a lot of tricks. However, if you just want a good and reliable bike, go for the classic BMX bicycle frames.
2. After deciding which BMX style suits your needs, then you need to determine from what material do you want your BMX bike to be made of. There are two types that are available in the market: chromoly steel and aluminum. BMX bike frames made from the former are sturdy and cost less while aluminum ones are lightweight but more expensive.
3. Determine the size of the frame for your BMX bicycle. Obviously, BMX are available in varied sizes to suit different needs, and to make BMX comfort bikes for people of different ages. However, as a general rule, anyone who is 12 years old will need a full sized BMX bike frame and younger ones need a smaller frame.
4. Rims are also essential considerations. You need to determine which type of rim will suit your demands from your BMX bicycle. Freestyle BMX bikes typically have mag rims or 48-spoke rims, while classic BMX bike frames have lighter weight, 32-spoke aluminum rim which provides additional speed during the race. As for jumping bikes, the rims have to be stronger and these types commonly has 48-spoke rimes with 36 heavy-duty 13 gauge spokes.
5. Check the brakes. Your safety should always come first and therefore, you need to determine the type of brake that you will need. Jumpers and classic BMX frames are commonly fitted with single, linear brake as they prefer raw stopping power. Freestyle BMX on the other hand, needs more control and less power, thereby U-brakes are more advised.

When Razor Scooters first burst on to the scene in 2000, many thought they would disappear into oblivion never to be heard from again. Instead, a whole new category of kids’ recreational gear was born.
The original Razor Scooter is still Razor USA’s best selling item, though the company has launched a dizzying array of new products such as the “PowerWing Caster Scooter”, the “RipStik”, the e-Series Electric Scooters, the “Dirt Quad”, “Scream Machine”, “Pocket Mod” and many others. Some even speculate that Razor will one day come out with its own line of electric cars.
In the wake of Razor’s phenomenal success, many copy cats emerged to rival the original Razor Scooter such as the “Mico” Scooter, the “Xootr” and many Chinese knock-offs. RazorUSA even introduced various models based on the original push scooter concept. Despite the competition, Razor continues to dominate the push scooter market both in terms of popularity, variety and durability. Consider this review from a mom on epionions.com: “So are they still cool? Absolutely!! We’re the neighborhood hangout for kids of all ages, and they all flock to the razor scooter. Only the coolest of the cool have these… (oh, I can’t believe I said that!)… “
So far, Razor’s list of push scooters includes the following:
2-Wheeled Scooters
o A Scooter
o A2 Scooter
o A3 Scooter
o Pro Model Scooter
o Cruiser Scooter
o Carvr Scooter
o A5 Lux Adult Scooter
3-Wheeled Scooters
o Kiddie Kick Scooter
o PowerWing Caster Scooter
Given all the choices, which one is best for you or your loved one?
Over the past several years, I have made a living selling Razor Scooters. Based on my experience, here are my recommendations:
By far, the most popular model we sell is the Razor “Pro Model” Scooter. The “Pro Model” is well designed, is sturdy, looks cool and can take a beating. This scooter was designed by the Razor Team riders themselves, so it’s built for stunt and trick riding. This scooter is for more advanced riders aged nine on up, though the manufacturer says the scooter is fine for kids as young as five.
Beginners should start with the “A” Scooter which closely resembles the original Razor scooter from 2000. It’s portable, easy to ride and comes in a variety of colors like Red, Black, Green, Blue and even Pink. It’s also very inexpensive – never more than $30. Variations on this scooter include the “A2″ and “A3″. The “A2″ includes a wheelie bar so riders can begin performing stunts and can add a bit more variety to their riding. The “A3″ is like the “A2″ except it has shocks on the front wheel and larger 125mm wheels – it’s sort of the Cadillac of the A series Razor Scooters. These scooters are for kids five and up according to the manufacturer. There is also the Purple “A2″ Scooter for those looking for a truly unique ride.
For toddlers, Razor makes the “Kiddie Kick” Scooter which has three wheels and is made for four to five year olds who want to familiarize themselves with the world of kick scooting. Because it has three wheels, it’s easy to stand on so kids don’t need to have fully developed balancing skills to ride it.
For the latest in new scooting technology, there is the Razor “PowerWing” which has suddenly become very popular as it represents another twist on the evolution in asphalt recreation that has come to dominate urban landscapes since the invention of the skateboard in the 1960′s. You’ve probably seen the commercials for the “PowerWing” on TV, but if not, you can do a search on YouTube and find a copy there. The “PowerWing” is still so new that kids are figuring out how to turn it into a stunt riding apparatus; no doubt we’ll see some interesting tricks performed on it in the coming months. The “PowerWing” is good for kids aged six and up.
The “Carvr” scooter is a very weird hybrid between a skateboard and a scooter. It’s barely worth mentioning in my opinion since it’s not a good seller at all and it really looks like a mutant “scootboard” that should be put out of its misery – fast. No doubt RazorUSA will discontinue this item some time in the near future.
What about teenage and adult riders?
Again, the Pro Model scooter is the most popular young adult scooter that we sell since it has become a kind of urban phenomenon that rivals both skateboarding and BMX. The stunts riders perform on this unit are really amazing and there are hundreds of YouTube videos out there to prove it – a small fraction of which are on our web site. Because of its broad appeal, the “Pro Model” Scooter is a great ride for kids young and old – even college kids use it as a commuter vehicle between classes.
If your interest is primarily transportation, then you’ll want to check out Razor’s line of larger scooters – the “Cruiser” Scooter and the “A5 Luxe” Scooter. The “Cruiser” Scooter is cool because its larger wooden deck gives it a classic feel and can accommodate bigger feet. It also has larger 140mm wheels giving it a bit more height.
The “A5 Luxe” Scooter with 200mm wheels is by far the closest thing Razor has to a push commuter vehicle. We just started selling this scooter and already we’ve seen it gain traction quickly. Even I want one! I’m sure we’ll see this scooter pop up across campuses and even office parks nationwide in coming months. It’s easy to carry and because it’s foldable, it can be taken on the subway and even right up the elevator. Once Razor adds the cup holder, you may just want to ditch your car.

Residents in Old Windsor are angry that a planned Gypsy site may appear on their door steps in the future. Sir Elton John, who has his £8million mansion nearby, may become their neighbour. Residents feel that Old Windsor is not the place for such a site, even though a planning permission has already been submitted. The existing owner of the mobile home park has submitted the plans which will seek to change the use of the land from outdoor recreation and leisure to a Gypsy and travellers accommodation site.
The land in question is in a green belt area and if the proposals are given the go ahead then five pitches, three temporary and two permanent, would be added to the area there.
Residents feel angry that such proposals are being put forward in their village as it is not the ideal place to put such a site. The site in question is on land adjacent to Newtonside Orchard in Burfield Road, Newtonside Orchard already has a site which houses five touring caravans.
However the local councillor feels that although there is a lot of concern about the proposed site in the community it is still within the Deputy Prime Minister’s code of practice for Gypsy and traveller sites. There is under-provision in the Royal Borough and so the need for the site may allow it to go ahead, South East England as a whole lacks these sites.
A spokesman for the applicant says that because the site would be screened by high brick walls he does not see it as being a problem to the community. The community however will meet on Wednesday 26 January 2011 to discuss their views on the scheme. A councillor admitted that the council was unaware at this present time of any views that Sir Elton John may have about the proposed scheme backing onto his estate.

An average mountain bike has several additional features compared to a regular bicycle. These include larger number of gears, knobby tires, a wider handle bar and often some form of suspension for the tires. A mountain bike skeleton is called a chassis, a term that refers to the frame, fork and suspension as one unit. A chassis is generally constructed using lightweight materials such as carbon fiber.
These bikes are often equipped with a large number of gears, with some models being equipped with as many as 27 gears. The lower range of gears helps mountain bikers climb steep hills or obstacles. Mountain bikes use sprocket technology that makes changing gears easier, and shift levers that automatically move up or down, one gear at a time.
A mountain bike usually has both a front and a rear suspension. The suspension acts as a shock absorber for both the rider and the bike. Based on the type of suspension, mountain bikes can be classified into three main categories: Hardtail (frame with no rear suspension, often has a front suspension fork), Fully Rigid (sub-type of hardtail, with a rigid fork) and Dual or Full suspension (front suspension fork and rear suspension integrated into the frame).
Some mountain bikes may also be fitted with bar ends on the handlebars, especially in the case of flat straight handles bars. However, with an increasing preference for riser handlebars, bar end extensions are being used in smaller numbers. These bikes are commonly available with a wheel size of 26 inches (660 mm). Recently, larger wheel sizes of 29 inches (737 mm) have also been introduced. The larger wheels usually roll better over obstacles, but they reduce the maneuverability of the bike.
While a variation of the cantilever brakes is found on most mountain bikes, some of these, especially those with suspension systems, have disc brakes. With a large choice in parts available for mountain bikes, it is important to research your requirements, before shopping around to get the best prices.

You love riding your bike but after a while it feels more like a torture device than an extension of your body. It doesn’t have to happen. Getting your bike fit dialed in will go a long way to improving both comfort and performance. People think a fast position is low and uncomfortable but if your body won’t tolerate an aggressive then you won’t be as fast as you could be. While I can’t cover all the details of bike fit in a single article I will address some of the more common complaints and easy fixes for them.
Numb or Sore Hands
This may sound odd but the most common cause of numb hands is your seat being too far forward. Most bike saddles are on rails allowing you to move them backward and forward. Try sliding your saddle back 5-10 mm. In my own case, I have a long upper body so I need to be extra far back. I’ve got a seat post with extra offset and the saddle slid all the way back.
As well your handlebar may need to be raised or your stem swapped for length.
For every 2 mm you move your saddle back, lower your seat 1 mm as you are moving away from the pedals so it has to be compensated for. Make sure your saddle is level as well as a saddle tipped down will have you sliding forward on your hands.
Butt and Crotch
Most of your weight should be on your sit bones on the rear widest part of the saddle. If you feel like to much of the pressure is on the crotch, then lower your seat 3 mm. Test it out and keep lower a little at a time until you are supported on the sit bones with minimal pressure on the crotch or perineum area.
Sometimes with crotch and butt pain it’s just that you have the wrong saddle. If you develop sore spots in the inside of your sitbones then the saddle could be the culprit. If your saddle feels like you are sitting between the sitbones rather than on them consider a saddle that is slightly wider at the back.
Feet
If you ride in sneakers then the best thing you can do for your feet is get the biggest platform pedals you can find as your shoes don’t support your feet so the pedal has to. BMX or downhill pedals are a great way to go.
When you are running cycling shoes and clipless pedals there are a number of ways to improve foot comfort. If you are experiencing foot numbness or a hot spot in the forefoot then my first adjustment would be how you tighten your shoes when you put them on. Start at the top, nearest your shin and work towards the toe. When you start at the toe you tend to over tighten across the ball of your foot leading to numbness.
The next step is to move your cleats back further towards the heel. Start with 5 mm and test to see if that relieves the pressure. Keep moving it back if the problem is getting better but not gone. When you move your cleats back you will have to move your seat down half the distance you moved your cleats.
If the pain is in the arch or outside of the foot then you may need to replace the stock insoles with one with more arch support. There are a few brands of heat mold-able insoles that have a firmer arch support.
Knees
Knee cap / Front of the knee
This is usually a sign your seat is too low or you are doing to much hill climbing in a big gear. Raise your seat 3 mm at a time until the pressure on your knees has eased. And while not a fitting issue, focus on spinning lighter gears, even uphill. It takes work but you will become a more efficient cyclist once your adapt your body to a higher cadence. If you have persistent pain or discomfort than you may have developed some inflammation. Going to see your doctor is a good idea in this case. Go light on the riding for a couple of weeks spinning easy gears to give the joint a chance to heal.
Back of the Knee
This is less common but is usually a sign that your seat is too high. Pain behind the knee is often accompanied by low back (along the belt line) pain as the hips will tend to rock when your seat is too high.
Sides of the Knee
If you get pain in the outside of the knee from riding it’s a sign your feet are set too narrow. This is a problem with some of the modern pedals from Look and Shimano as the stance width is narrower than older models. Most cleats will allow some side to side adjustment so you will want to move them in towards the inside of the foot which will move your feet wider.
The other thing that can cause pain in the side of the knee is cleat angle. It’s most common to need the heels a bit but that doesn’t apply to everyone. Try adjusting the angle a little and see how it feels. If it’s worse go in the other direction until the pressure eases.
Lower Back and Hips
This can be caused by a number of factors including seat to far forward, bar too low, reach to the bar too long or seat too high. Follow the step outline above and see if they help with the lower back. Other factors include tight hamstrings and pushing too hard of a gear.
Without a professional fit, it can take a bit of trial and error to correct fit problems but try the tips I’ve outlined above and you should start to see some improvement.

It is a sure thing that accidents and injuries due to mountain bike riding still increasingly happen with or without wearing protective gears like helmets and pads. Mountain bike riding is the most risky form of bike riding.
This is why, in some places, wearing helmets when riding bikes is a mandatory law. There have been alarming high rates of accidents and injuries caused by mountain bike riding especially from those who don’t wear protective gears.
Aside from head injuries which are the most common injury caused by mountain riding, other common injuries include spinal injuries, inclusion, lumbar or thoracic injuries, and cervical injuries. Head injuries are also liable for most deaths caused by mountain bike riding.
Some injuries acquired from riding become serious which eventually need to have surgical operations. These surgical operations may need to fix bone fractures, or treat tissues which have been damaged because of the impact from the accidents. Some bike riders who have severe injuries require being in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facility.
The ICU is usually for patients who need serious attention to monitor their condition. Other bike riders who have been involved in bike-related accidents need to undergo therapy and rehabilitation to attain full recovery from injuries.
Medical costs for these hospital services to treat injuries acquired from riding are definitely expensive. This is why it is highly recommended for riders to observe safety precaution like wearing helmet to somehow alleviate the severity of injuries.
Although there are no direct correlation between decreased occurrence of accidents due to mountain bike riding and increased usage of protective gears like helmets, there is still an advantage of using one. Helmets generally protect the brain and skull of the head which may help lessening the severity of the injury.
Helmets may not avoid the mountain bikers to meet an accident or have an injury but it helps greatly in reducing the seriousness of the injury. Compared to the expensive cost from medical treatment a rider needs to cure his severe injuries, helmets are certainly much less expensive to avoid severity of the injuries.
According to research, most of the frequently affected or involved in bike-related accidents are young males, and who only ride mountain bikes for exercise and leisure.
It does not matter if you are a professional cyclist or just a rider for fun, it is always important to observe your safety before doing this activity. It is always true that prevention is better than cure. In this case, helmets are definitely better than being cured in a hospital.
